I’m so excited about LID, and I would love all of you to join me as I venture off in this new direction. I’m hoping to focus more on my creative passions, including graphic design, photography, fashion, event planning, and art. I’m ready to put 110% effort into this new blog – I’m so passionate about it! Come along and…

Take a look!

My ‘confession album’ a la Proust

August 11, 2009 by Michelle Hisae

After reading this mini-version of a Proust Questionnaire on being red, I couldn’t help but play along! She DID invite everyone, so you should, too!  :)

Your idea of perfect bliss? A hot shower, clean pajamas, and a mug of vanilla black tea // Greatest fear? Letting life whiz by because I sweat the small stuff too much // Your most prized possession? The silver, knot ring that my mom and I share // Song describing your current mood: “Happiness” by The Fray // Words or phrases you most overuse? “Seriously?” or “That’s not a bad idea!” // Which talent would you most like to have? A knack for learning languages // Where would you most like to live? Probably CA, but really anywhere with open spaces and a view of rolling hills // My favorite snack food is… 1. banana, 2. soy latte // If you could be anyone, real or fiction, who would you be? 1. Jenna Lyons of J.Crew, 2. Ashley Olsen // Your motto? Love is in the details. // On a plane, sleep or get some work done? Get work done. It’s too hard to sleep!

Not ‘goodbye’ but ’see you later’

This is my homage to my man. Today was the dreaded day where I had to drop my boyfriend at the airport and see him off to Texas. It was incredibly bittersweet. I’m so proud of him for taking this step, but I also can’t imagine not waking up to him every morning. He is such an incredible person; I wish everyone got the chance to be touched in some way by this gentle, intelligent, and charming man. I see him doing such great things, and Dallas is another starting point for all he’ll accomplish.

Babe, I love you.

As a little girl, I always liked Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. I think it was the timing – starting out with movies like Double, Double, Toil and Trouble and To Grandmother’s House We Go in the early 1990s brought me to How the West Was Fun and one of my favorites, It Takes Two. And I can’t forget Full House. Maybe it was because I shared a name with little Michelle Tanner, but I could watch Full House reruns like it was nobody’s business. I’m almost positive I’ve seen every movie they’ve made.

But now I’m older and while my encounters with their work have become less frequent (mostly in the form of random magazine articles and news on their clothing lines), I’m still inspired by the work that they do. In particular, Ashley’s sense of style always seems…telling. Iconic. Inspired. Effortless. Telling. Grounded.

Back to what brought me to this little story: Ashley scored the September cover of Marie Claire. Read the article here.

Off to buy the issue…

Have a little faith.

August 2, 2009 by Michelle Hisae

In the past couple weeks, President Obama has been put in the spotlight by so-called “birthers” questioning whether or not he was actually born in Hawaii and is a citizen of the United States of America. My boyfriend shared an article with my written by Bill Maher that really blew my mind. It was one of those !dingdingding! moments. In response to this birth certificate ordeal, Maher said:

“Why, in this country, is it always the religious right that won’t take anything on faith?”

Seriously, though…why? And why do some just refuse to accept Change. Change for the better. I have a feeling we’ll be asking ourselves that for a long time.

I’ve been organizing my photos lately (long overdue!), and happened to come across a few old family photos from 1993. That would make me…4 years old at the time. This is a photo of me, my brother (2 years older than me, one of 2 brothers), my dad, and both of my grandmas. I miss Grandma “I” a lot (on the right). <3

I cracked up when I saw this photo, just because I that pouty face has not escaped me to this day…I love it. My mom reminds me how sassy I was as a little girl – I would come up with facts to support my argument as to why I should not have to take a shower that night.

P.S. I no longer hate taking showers.

Brightened my day.
